Across the Desert

We left Santa Maria this morning and drove back down south to Santa Monica where we joined Interstate 10. We used I10 to cross LA and stayed on it across the desert over the Arizona state line and all the way to Phoenix. So from LA to Phoenix it was a total of about 370 miles.

The desert landscape is very beautiful in its own way. Broad flat plains between mountain ranges. Sage brush, Joshua trees and the famous Western Cactus. Along the way we saw some scary turnpikes (Pia still doesn’t like them), beautiful snow capped mountains and just east of Palm Springs we saw miles of Wind Turbines, there must have been thousands, lining hills and valleys.

We arrived in Phoenix late and am afraid that the anniversary dinner was takeout. Will make up for it later.

  1. Hi Pia & Mark,
"By the time I get to Phoenix, you'll be sleeping" courtesy of Glen Campbell who you probably don't even know about, but he was hot in the 60's. I have my map out and I am following every step of your journey. So what is next, Flagstaff or El Paso, I'm guessing the Grand Canyon is snowed in, maybe the south rim is open??? Had a long day driving to uni and back in one swoop, 5am start - home at 6pm but it was worth it! Tomorrow is a writing day for me. Des is happy with the slab for the shed and the prep on the deck.
Its great to see your photos as well.
    Cheers
    Dale xx

  3. hey you two, hope the road has smoothed out and you're travelling well - All's quiet here - the mother stayed in town at Vanda's last night after a day at Red Cross yesterday and the father travelled up to the shack yesterday to "play" and do boy stuff; think Uncle Des was getting a little lonely, anyway they have covered off a few maintenance chores and think maybe the father will stay another night. Mother is heading off to workshop 19,20,21; home Wed night, don't they ever stay home - Love and Meow to you both Edmund and I suppose S 'n L
