Goodbye Treasure Island

After returning to Edna's from the Keys, we saw her off the following morning, as she flew out to Ohio for awhile. We'll catch up with her there soon. Then we spent the following two days running errands and doing some local stuff.

We had a lovely picnic at Sunset Beach at sunset. We caught up with a family friend, Ray Winiecki, and went out to dinner with he and his wife, Maryann. It was a great Cuban restaraunt on the river. Ray and his late first wife, Theresa (Terry) were good friends with my father and mother in the '60s and '70s and he told me some funny stories.

We returned to Bay Pines for a matter regarding my service in the Marine Corps and they were super helpful. Tried to find any old photos or memorabilia in the library at Bay Pines, but they got rid of all that stuff years ago, apparently.

On our final evening in the area, we went out for Nachos and a drink at the outdoor bar at the end of the St Petersburg Pier, a famous local landmark. It was awesome.

Thursday morning early, we hit the road for Orlando. On the way out of town we spent about an hour looking for Mom and Dad's old house in Sunrise Drive (at sunrise, coincidentally). Finally we discovered that the whole neighborhood was knocked down a few years ago and now it's all an up-market planned community full of mobile homes. Not trailers or caravans, but the kit-home type. Two small lengths of Sunrise Drive still survive, but the street numbers have all changed. We couldn't identify the lot.
Finally, we turned toward Orlando and for those that don't know, that means Disneyworld...
