Lights, Camera, MAGIC…

This morning we decided to visit Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
This is a slightly smaller park. It is laid out like an idealized version of a 1940s Hollywood. There are art deco buildings and period memorabilia everywhere. It is actually very nice. This place is all about movie magic.

I’ll start by putting Lucy at ease. Yes, we went on the ride Star Tours. Yes, it was awesome. Yes, we saw Darth Vader (and Darth Maul) live on stage. Yes, we found you something at the Star Wars gift shop.

One of the high points of the whole day was the Indiana Jones stunt show. It was a spectacular show with gigantic set-pieces recreating all of the action highlights from the first movie, Raiders of the Lost Ark. The stunt performers were the same as worked on the last Indy film and the whole thing was full of booby traps, fisticuffs, gunfire, explosions and much humour.

The other stunt show was Lights, Motors, Action. This was an awesome stunt show, all done with cars and motorcycles in a recreation of a French fishing village, overlooked by the audience grandstand. And it was really impressive.

There is a small section of town dedicated to the Muppets. It was really charming but unfortunately the 4D movie was temporarily closed for renovation.

Pixar studios also have their own section of town, but the best thing there was a movie with a walking tour called Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream. It told the story of his life. We both loved it. It is a really inspirational story.

There were other rides and attraction too, and we looked at most of them. Considering that we hadn’t originally planned to visit this park, we were very glad we did. We had a really great time.

We got back to the hotel in the early evening this time and went to dinner at the resort restaurant. Good food. Good prices. $2 margaritas. What more could you want?

And no. We never did go on the Tower of Terror.
